Personal storytelling has always been a critical tool in our fight for LGBTQ+ equality. Now, more than ever, we need to focus on the basics of telling our stories in ways that bridge misunderstanding and help shift perspectives—whether to family members, classmates, co-workers, or elected officials. This training does just that: centering the narrative of who we are.
Voices for Equality is a 3-hour, in-person workshop that empowers LGBTQ+ advocates and allies by harnessing the power of personal storytelling to change hearts and minds. This live, connected training builds empathy, shifts public opinion, strengthens community leadership, and contributes to the broader movement for equality by uplifting LGBTQ+ identities and experiences.
Through guided reflection and interactive exercises, participants will leave with a compelling personal narrative and the skills to use it as a tool for advocacy and change. The training emphasizes authenticity, emotional safety, resilience, and stories rooted in reflection—not fresh pain.
This training welcomes LGBTQ+ advocates, allies, and community members—whether new to HRC or long-time supporters—who are passionate about equality and engaged in their communities.
Each training reflects diverse identities and levels of storytelling experience, and includes support from local leaders and small group work to create a welcoming and supportive environment.
Currently, this training is provided in English, and we are also developing a Spanish-language curriculum.
